Aluminium for a Sustainable Future

About AluSelect

The world is moving into a low carbon economy. As we are witnessing the development of new business models, IT innovation, decentralized governance, and energy efficiency, Aluminium is playing a fundamental role to drive this transformation. Aluminium has a broad range of unique properties that contributes to building a new society based on low carbon products, lighter cars, energy efficient-buildings and recycling. Transport is the single largest sector for aluminium products in Europe, absorbing almost 40% of industry output. Its lightweight characteristics reduce the weight of a range of vehicles from passenger aircraft to cars, increasing fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions.

Unique Properties of Aluminium

Today, aluminium is the second most widely used metal in the world. This is because aluminium has a unique combination of attractive properties and effects.

Light yet strong

Despite its relatively low weight, aluminium has a remarkable strength to weight ratio. As an alloy, aluminium offers similar performance to advanced steels and titanium.

Recyclability

5% of original energy consumption, with 75% of all aluminium produced still in use.

High versatility

Aluminium is not only light; it has a low melting point and is highly ductile. This makes it easy to work with, shape and join adding to its versatility.

Energy saving

Aluminium’s unique properties allow for significant energy savings in many applications; for example in vehicles and buildings.

Corrosion free & durable

Aluminium develops a natural oxide layer, protecting it against corrosion and making it virtually maintenance free. This makes aluminium the ideal material for packaging, building and vehicles and transport.

Alloying technology

Aluminium can be made hard, soft, stiff, bendable, smooth, temperature resistant etc. depending on the actual need, by developing tailor-made alloys.

International Alloy Designations at a Glance

Teal Sheets inside AluSelect

The list of alloy designations registered with the Aluminum Association, including their approved chemical composition limits, represents the global de facto standard for wrought aluminium alloys. European designations and their classification into alloy groups are homologated with this list, ensuring full traceability between continents. Teal Sheets is fully embedded into AluSelect and compiles more than 500 internationally registered wrought aluminium alloys. Users can inspect the chemical composition, origin and status of every grade, navigate quickly between standards and product forms, and combine the dataset with the property knowledge captured in AluSelect. The joint experience creates a single point of truth for aluminium experts, procurement teams and research departments.

Teal Sheets Highlights

The EDA®-based Teal Sheets module extends AluSelect with advanced search, analysis and reporting capabilities.

Interactive Data Analysis

Comparison tables can be filtered, rearranged and visualized in interactive graphs. Each click opens the linked alloy data set for deeper review.
